Fashion Consultant Chalya Wears Deola Sagoe Ori Oke Fall 2011

Wearing African Fashion designs during New York Fashion Week  was a major hit among the fashionable mavens. CulturalToast.com also spotted fashion consultant and blogger Chalya at the Arise Made in Africa show wearing a stunning handcrafted Deola Sagoe wrap dress lifted from the Nigerian fashion label’s newly release Ori Oke Fall 2011 collection! Essence magazine also endorsed Chalya’s style at New York Fashion Week for their street style portfolio!

Deola Sagoe incorporated Japanese and Yoruba dress styles for her new Fall/Winter 2011 collection! The name Ori Oke is combination of two names from the Japanese and Yoruba dialects. “Ori” deprived from “Shibori” – a Japanese word. “Oke” is lifted from “Aso-Oke” – a Yoruba term.  Fader TV caught up with Chalya after the Arise Made in Africa SS 2012 show wrapped up. What’s remarkable about the footage is of course what she wore! Fast forward to 3:01 to revel in Chalya’s Deola Sagoe Ori Oke Fall 2011 dress!

Eku Edewor’s African Fashion Rundown Featuring Bridget Awosika & The J Label

It’s no secret that CulturalToast.com loves Nigerian former model Eku Edewor’s style on and off the red carpet. Eku is a huge supporter of African Fashion. The 53 Xtra TV show host is regularly photographed in designs straight off the runway and look-books by Republic of Foreigner, Jewel By Lisa, Deola Sagoe, and Bridget Awosika.

hosting the 2011 Elite Model Nigeria competition in a Deola Sagoe Ori Oke Fall 2011

For her editorial shoot with Mania Magazine (Issue 3), Eku Edewor wore a printed top and shorts from Jewel By Lisa’s new diffusion line, The J Label. Styled by Dimenji Alara, Eku showcases affordable luxury for the contemporary woman. This marks the first time The J Label has appeared in a major editorial fashion spread. Gotta love it!

Eku Edewor on her J Label look: The short is fun, sexy and easy to wear. The cut on the shoulder makes it very central. They can appeal to quite a number of girls. You can wear them with flip-flops or heels. However you feel comfortable.

Eku Edewor on her second J Label look: This is very easy to wear. I like the detail and the print. I could wear this to lunch with my friends.

For her hosting duties at the 2011 Elite Model Nigeria competition, Eku wore a one shoulder Bridget Awosika Autumn/Winter 2011 black silk jersey Grecian-inspired dress. We love that dress started as a sheer button-up collar long-sleeved shirt but worked its way into a stunning draped one-shoulder look.

If you’re curious about which African fashion label will Eku wear next, follow her on Twitter for the scoop at @eku_g_edewor! What were your favorite African fashion looks on Eku Edewor? Vote…

Many of their staple style items such as Burberry’s classic trench were presented. Last season for their Resort 2012 collection, Burberry used ankara! Burberry Prorsum’s creative director Christopher Bailey infused ankara/African prints onto parkas, dresses, high-waisted skirts, tops and jackets. House of Dereon’s African-Inspired Collection Launches at London’s Selfridges

House of Dereon, a fashion label run by Beyonce and Tina Knowles, presented its Afro-centric collection at London’s Selfridges. Many of the looks were based off Mud Cloth, Aztec prints, and tribal influence. House of Dereon also incorporated headwraps, feathers and statement pieces into their collection. This is no surprise to any Beyonce fans as she stressed back in March that she was inspired by Fela Kuti for her current album production. We spotted Sudanese model Ataui Deng walking down the runway at the House of Dereon fashion show…

The mom-to-be also told CNN International that her House of Dereon collection was inspired by her world trips to Brazil and Asia.

This collection was inspired by a lot of my travels. I did a world tour, I traveled to Asia, Brazil, all over the world and I saw such beauty and my mother traveled with me and we decided we should mix these great cultures together and make something original and beautiful, and this show celebrates the global nomad, and one day at the rate we’re going which is such a beautiful thing, there won’t be all these different races we’ll all just be mixed up and beautiful and that is so wonderful exciting and refreshing you know we have the mixtures of the African hair wraps and some of the Asian prints and we mix it with different textures sequins and gold jewelery and it just becomes very refreshing. To coincide with the release, a African remix of Beyonce’s song, “End of Time” played at the runway presentation. Check it out…

The Winter/Autumn and Holiday 2011 House of Dereon collection was viewed by fashion industry insiders on Saturday September 17! One of the looks presented was first worn by Beyonce for her Fela Kuti-inspired photoshoot for L’Officiel Magazine back in March 2011!
