Cultural Spot highlights outstanding, influential Africans in the media showcasing positive images of the Diaspora!
Eku Edewor has always been a huge supporter of the “Buy African” fashion movement as evident by her latest red carpet stylish moments. Whether it’ll be a beaded Jewel By Lisa asymmetrical-hem stunner or a kaleiodoscope Bunmi Koko silhouette, Eku manages to stay ahead in the curve. The 53 Extra host keeps her fans in the loop on what she’s wearing via daily tweets and twitpics posted on her official Facebook and Twitter pages. We love Eku’s Grey graphic print pants she wore at 2011 Hennessy Artistry Video Launch party! Actress Lynn Whitfield also took part in the fashion parade when she was photographed in a off-the-shoulder Ere Dappa ankara dress.
Jewel By Lisa “Vintage Love” SS 2012 (MTN LFDW)
Eku’s a huge fan of Jewel By Lisa as she has worn their stunning clothes on and off the red carpet as CulturalToast.com has reported on in the past. To attend the AFRIFF 2011 Gala, Eku wore a jeweled asymmetrical hem dress from the label’s Vintage Love Spring/Summer 2012 collection.
Maki Oh “Love is a Mystery” AW 2011 (Arise Fashion Week)
Bunmi Koko “Kaleidoscopia” AW 11 Collection (London Fashion Week)
Eku ditched the orange fur shrug when she stepped out in this kaleidoscope Bunmi Koko Autumn/Winter long-sleeved dress. This stunning look was first unveiled at London Fashion Week.

Cultural Presence looks at how celebrities and everyday people wear African fashion straight from the runway.
Two of the global’s biggest stars – Omotola and Gwen Stefani – put their own funky spin on cultural red carpet style. Gwen opted for the African fashion fabric prints while Omotola channeled a classic, Grecian-inspired look.
Nollywood superstar Omotola was seen in a yummy yellow Bunmi Koko low-cut pleated creation alongside the dress’s creative director Bunmi Olaye. Bunmi Koko as CulturalToast.com first reported just wrapped up their appearance at New York Fashion Week to fave praise! For those that recognize Bunmi’s lavender and yellow caftan, it made its runway debut via her Allure of the Sirens presentation at this past NYFW! It’s always great to see Nollywood embracing the African fashion scene!
Gwen Stefani wears a black and white batik-inspired pantsuit from her L.A.M.B Spring/Summer 2012 collection at the launch of her new Target children line, Harajuku Mini. It’s no secret that Gwen loves prints. Her past two collections was heavily influenced by African fashion fabrics from ankara to batik. We love that Gwen kept the same hair and the outfit as the runway look.

Cultural Pose is a look at red carpet events!
Bunmi Olaye presented her Bunmi Koko Spring/Summer 2012 collection she aptly named Allure of the Sirens at Arise Made in Africa Designer Collective show during New York Fashion. High structured pieces tied into her water theme. Bunmi Koko known for her eclectic take on womenswear was one of 7 African fashion designers that presented their latest designs at the highly-anticipated Arise Made in Africa Designer Collective show. Elite Model Nigeria winner Chika Emmanuel joined fellow rising models Rose Cordero. We love Bunmi Koko’s chic rope statement-making necklaces and belts. We also admire her use of pleats! The collection is very feminine!
