Solange Loves Her Prints

Solange Knowles – one of Vogue’s Best Dressed Woman of the year – proved the high-end style publication RIGHT yet again when she stepped out in a Derek Lam number with funky Giuseppe Zanotti heels and a Lanvin clutch at the Glamour Women of the Year Awards in New York City. Everything about this Lanre da Silva Ajayi Couture-inspired look screams out – winning. It’s no wonder Vogue picked Solange for two years in a row for their best dressed list. Thanks to the West African-inspired lace patterns on Solange’s Derek Lam ensemble, that cultural presence is definitely presented. #AfroHipster

DJ Solange was in effect at the Mexico City opening of H&M.

While we patiently await the follow-up to Sol-Angel & The Hadley Street Dreams aptly named True, check out snippets of new music from Solange (below) or over at (I’ve already called Losing You as my current favorite jam. My favorite track is ) Solange’s EP True hits stores on November 27th.

Naomi Harris: Get into Her Skyfall Red Carpet Global Takeover

I just caught the latest James Bond film – Skyfall. From the soulful Adele score to the sizzling hot chemistry between Daniel Craig and Naomie Harris to Javier Bardem’s convincing portrayal of a witty evil pyscho criminal, this movie was unbelievably good. The fight sequences were amazingly done and the location spots were a nice touch. James being the ever unmarried woman-loving agent had women at the drop of a dime from that first initial sex scene up against the wall to the steamy shower scene, James Bond’s swag is still in effect. I especially enjoy the chemistry between Naomie’s Eve Moneyponey and Daniel’s 007. (You will love when she tries to seduce him while shaving his beard.)  M (played by the fantastic Judi Dench) – I felt was likes James’ mother and that emotional final scene she shared with 007 cemented that point. Bottom line: Go see Skyfall!

Necessary Naomie & Daniel Skyfall red carpet photo moments

And now let’s into praising Naomie’s red carpet shutdown because quite frankly Naomie shut it down for all the red carpet premiere events for Skyfall. From her sheer sequined Marios Schwab dress to her sheer blue lace Dolce & Gabbana number to her red strapless Lanvin dress to her fierce shoe game thanks to Giuseppe Zanotti, Christian Louboutin, and Pierre Hardy. Naomie’s Skyfall red carpet style was fierce.

Daks from Third World ProFashional Wears Virgos Lounge to London Fashion’s Night Out

Adaku (Daks) From Third World Profashional (better known as one of’s favorite Nigerian female blogger) was spotted by the camera lens of Zeldan + Festus in a gorgeous Virgos Lounge outfit!

Here’s the 411 (and yes I had to throw out that MJB old school slang out there): Daks wore this ivory gold pattern beaded Virgos Lounge “Moss” blouse with a blush pink high waist “Holly” skirt with a colorful tribal beaded belt.  She completed her look with a Olivia Pope worthy Prada handbag! (Unfortunately the blouse is sold out BUT the skirt is still up for grabs!)

Love this outfit!

Kendra Wilkinson in Christiane King at the 2012 Golden Globes

Reality TV star and former Playboy starlet Kendra Wilkinson pose in a stunning white strapless number by Abidjan, Cote d’Ivoire fashion designer Christiane King at the 2012 Golden Globes NBC Universal Viewing After Party. She completed her look with pink suede peep-toes and her husband Hank Baskett! (-wink-!) Kudos to stylist Gabby Lewis for picking this red carpet gem for Kendra!

Hollywood embracing African fashion at major red carpet events is always a winning combo. Who could forget Nicole Ari Parker’s Kiki shirdress during Oscar weekend 2011? Didn’t you cheer when Angela Simmons was seen in a Virgos Lounge dress at New York Fashion Week?

Christiane King, best known appearing on Project Runway, posted on her Facebook page  that Kendra’s wearing the Marilyn dress from her latest collection, which can be yours for $445. (This dress also comes in black!)

Christiane King on her Marilyn dress: Channel your flirty side and take on holiday parties in our pretty Marilyn dress. The subtle sweetheart neckline, sequined bodice, and the three-dimensional floral mesh skirt combine for an evening look that’s short and sweet.

It’s great to see African fashion designers getting that Hollywood nod! Speaking of which, big congrats to Idris Elba (representing London, Ghana, Sierra Leone) on his win for Best Performance by an Actor in a Mini-Series or a Motion Picture Made for Television award at the 69th annual awards event! He won a Golden Globe for his role in the BBC drama series, “Luther.”

Cultural Presence: Catt Sadler’s Jewel by Lisa Obsession

The buzz on Jewel by Lisa heightens yet again thanks to E News correspondent Catt Sadler (@IAmCattSadler) who wore three statement pieces from the Nigerian-run fashion label, a creative brainchild from Lisa Folawiyo. It’s great to see Hollywood embracing one of Nigeria’s top fashion designers!

Nigerian model and Studio Xtra 53 host Eku Edewor (@Eku_G_Edewor) was actually the first celebrity to wear the butterfly print dress from the Fall 2011 collection at Arise Magazine Fashion Week in Lagos, Nigeria. We love the dress in lime green and yellow! Eku accessorized her look with grey oxfords and her black YSL muse bag. Interestingly so the butterfly print dress popped up again in the new JBL Fall 2012 collection’s print campaign which featured by Tanzanian model Millen Magese (@ladivamillen).

Cultural Toast is excited to see what JBL statement piece Catt Sadler may chose to wear next!
